What is Fat Grafting?

Instead of breast implants, many individuals opt for natural breast augmentation. Fat grafting breast augmentation uses liposuction to transfer fat from other body parts and inject those fat cells into your breasts. This breast augmentation option is for women looking for a slight increase in their breast size and who would prefer natural results. This can also decrease excess fat in other areas in the body that you would like to look more contoured.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is ideal for clients who want to improve the loss of breast volume and sagging due to aging, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. This procedure repositions the nipple areola complex and reshapes the breast to create a more youthful perky shape, which can improve self-confidence and body image.

Procedure

Breast Lift

Depending on your anatomy, either a lollipop or anchor incision will be planned for your breast lift. The nipple areola complex is repositioned to a higher position on the breast mound, and the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve your breast contour.

Fat Transfer

Before the procedure, you and your plastic surgeon will decide on an area for fat removal. This area is initially injected with a local anesthetic. After this, a small incision is made where a cannula connected to a syringe is inserted. Liposuction is then used to harvest fat for the fat transfer. Common sites for fat retrieval include the abdomen, back, buttocks, and thighs. After the fat is collected, the fat is prepared for injection. The separated fat is then transferred into small syringes and microdroplets of fat are injected into the desired treatment area where they will grow into the treatment area tissue to create an increase in volume of that tissue.

Recovery Process

Breast Augmentation Recovery

4-6 weeks

Swelling and bruising are expected after the procedure, which will subside after a few weeks. Most patients can return to work after 1-2 weeks, and resume exercise 4-6 weeks later.

It is important to know that following fat transfer, approximately 60-70% of the fat survives long term. There will initially be swelling and bruising which will subside with time. The surgical results of fat grafting are permanent, however the fat will change with changes in your body metabolism. If you gain weight the fat cells will increase in size, which will further enlarge the breast volume. Similarly, if you lose weight, the fat cells will shrink in size, and you will lose that volume in your breasts.

Beautifully You

Who is a good candidate for Breast Lift with Fat Grafting?

If you want to decrease stubborn fat in other areas of the body while achieving a small augmentation to the breast, you are an ideal candidate. Prime candidates are those who are overall healthy, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations for their results and are not looking for a large breast volume enhancement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a breast lift covered by insurance?

Elective cosmetic surgeries such as breast lifts are not covered by medical insurance. To help make this procedure more affordable, we offer competitive financing options.

Do I need a breast lift or just implants?

Women who experience significant volume deflation after pregnancy or weight loss are often bothered by the excess breast skin and low position of their nipples. In these cases, we commonly recommend a breast tightening procedure with a lift. A breast lift procedure is also sometimes combined with a breast implant or fat grafting if the patient desires more breast volume and fullness.

Do you lose sensation with breast lift?

Following breast lift surgery some women may experience temporary loss of sensation to the breast or nipples. Most of these women develop a return of full breast and nipple sensation with time.

Do you still have feeling in your nipples after breast lift?

Yes, its very rare for someone to experience permanent loss in nipple sensitivity after breast lift surgery. Most patients continue to have normal nipple sensation after breast lift surgery.

Does a breast lift cost more than implants?

The cost of surgery depends on the type of procedure as well as patient-specific anatomic factors. Depending on the extent and type of surgical plan, a breast lift can cost more than the average breast augmentation surgery.

Does a breast lift leave scars?

A breast lift requires more incisions to remove excess skin, relocate the nipple, and remove or redistribute breast tissue. The good news is that these incisions heal well over time and dramatically improve the overall shape of the breast. We are passionate about implementing scar care early after surgery to help your scars fade quickly.

Does insurance pay for breast lift?

A breast lift is not typically paid for by insurance as its considered a cosmetic procedure.

How do you shower after a breast lift?

It is recommended that you keep your incisions dry for 48 hours after surgery, after that you can safely shower. Our plastic surgeons will provide detailed instructions on caring for your incision sites and any other sensitive areas following your breast lift surgery.

How long do breast lift results last?

While results vary based on the age and lifestyle of the patient, a breast lift generally provides a long-lasting permanent result. Results are most affected by future pregnancy and or dramatic weight changes. For these reasons, we recommend patients considering a breast lift are at a stable weight and not planning a pregnancy soon after their surgery.

How long does a breast lift take?

A breast lift is an outpatient procedure that is done under general anesthesia and usually takes around 3 hours.

How long does it take for breast lift scars to heal?

After breast lift surgery, most patients are able to return to normal activity in 6-8 weeks. However, at this early time point, the scars are still maturing and not yet at their full strength. While the scars look healed, it takes one year for scars to fully mature. For this reason, we recommend scar care to begin early on and continue for as long as one year after surgery to ensure the best final outcome and cosmesis.

How long does vampire breast lift last?

Vampire breast lifts, performed using platelet-rich plasma injections, are not permanent, although some patients experience benefits for up to two years.

How painful is a breast lift?

To manage pain in the first few days after a breast lift you can take your prescribed pain medication. Pain and soreness may be more intense around the incision sites which will remain red or pink for a few months before fading back to your normal skin color. You may experience numbness in your nipples, areolas, and breast skin, but sensation will return in about six weeks’ time.

How soon after breast lift can I exercise?

A few days after surgery you can begin a routine of light walking. You will not be able to return to your normal exercise routine until about 6-8 weeks after surgery.
