Originally, the term philanthropy was coined by the Greek playwright Aeschylus in the 5th century BC to mean the “love of humanity.” Today, Drs. Kurtovic and Mahabir express philanthropy as generosity in all its forms as giving gifts of “time, talent, and treasure” to help make life better for other people. While new to the city of Tucson, they are enthusiastic to be part of the community and look forward to engaging with you in meaningful ways.
Dr. Mahabir has done volunteer surgery missions across the globe. These trips included both life-saving reconstructive surgeries as well as teaching local surgeons to enhance the overall surgical safety, quality and capacity around the world. He is also a member of the Maliniac Circle which is comprised of plastic surgeons whose generosity has surpassed the status quo. His induction into the Maliniac Circle demonstrates a sincere belief in and enthusiasm for the pioneering research pursued by The Plastic Surgery Foundation.
Present
In 2019, Dr. Mahabir was invited to join the board of Check for a Lump. Their vision is to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer by providing free breast health education, mammograms, testing, and direct assistance to breast cancer patients with wigs, support, and resources in Arizona. This not-for-profit is focused on Arizona and serving the under / uninsured.
After arriving in Tucson, Drs. Mahabir and Kurtovic are exploring the opportunities to be involved in the community and specifically the breast cancer community. They have already begun to support Tucson Cancer Conquerors and the Bag It programs. TCC is dedicated to empowering Tucson cancer survivors and the communities that support them to achieve optimal wellness. Bag it believes that patient education, along with support for the caregivers and advocates, leads to a better outcome and has recently decided to launch a national campaign.
We have a specific focus on helping support and grow local charities who have the same commitment and philosophy. Please feel free to reach out to us, we would love to meet you!
Future
Our goal in 2021 is to establish our own not for profit. The ultimate goal of that organization will be to partner with local hospitals and physicians to be able to provide services to the under / uninsured patients in Tucson and Arizona. While we have enjoyed surgery missions near and far, there is a need and an opportunity to donate our time and talent right here in Tucson.
Our mission at Tucson Plastic Surgery is to provide you with an unparalleled experience by taking time to listen and understand your individual needs and concerns. We believe creating a custom-tailored plan based on your goals and unique anatomy is essential to achieving your best possible results.
