What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a skin care treatment that is performed by a physician and involves the use of lasers to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. We offer a powerful ablative Carbon Dioxide (CO2) laser. Ablative lasers remove the thin outermost layer of the skin called the epidermis and heats the underlying skin called the dermis, stimulating the growth of collagen. As the skin heals and regrows, the treated skin will appear smoother and tighter than before.
Laser skin resurfacing can be used to address the following:
- Age spots
- Scars
- Acne scars
- Warts
- Fine or deep wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven skin tone
Who is a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Patients who wish to improve the appearance of their skin for a more youthful complexion can often benefit from laser skin resurfacing. However, those with active acne breakouts or excessive sagging skin may not benefit from this procedure. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through a consultation at our office. During this appointment, you will be able discuss your aesthetic goals and concerns, as well as ask any questions that you may have regarding treatment. This allows for a unique treatment plan to be made up for you!

Laser Skin Resurfacing Process
Prior to the procedure, the skin should be prepared. This will involve a couple of treatments that will be done several weeks before the procedure, which will increase your skin’s tolerance to professional treatments as well as decrease your risk for side effects. On the day of your laser skin resurfacing procedure, a topical anesthetic will first be applied to the skin. Then, the area will be cleansed, and the selected laser will be moved slowly across the targeted area. Once the laser treatment is complete, the skin will be wrapped to protect it.
Recovery Process
Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery
3 - 10 days
This procedure is an outpatient one, so you can return home to heal. Overall, healing usually takes about 3-10 days, though the larger the treatment area, the longer the recovery time. During recovery, you may experience skin redness and scabbing, and the skin may begin to peel. Ice packs can be used to reduce swelling. Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your skin during recovery, which may include cleansing the area multiple times a day to keep it clean. A daily moisturizer can also assist with the healing process. The number of treatments required to see desired results will depend on your individual skin concerns and the type of laser used.
