What is Ear Surgery?
Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is performed to change the position, shape, or size of the ears. Is is usually used to address ears that stick out too far from the head or appear too large relative to the head. Cosmetic otoplasty can be performed at any age after the ears have reached their full size, which is usually after the age of five. The goal is to create a more natural shape to the ear while ensuring the ears are balanced and proportionate with the head.

Ear Surgery Process
The specific technique that is used to perform your ear surgery may differ depending on the area of concern. To correct protruding ears, incisions are generally made on the back surface of the ear. However, incisions may also be necessary on the front of the ear and are made within the folds to hide scarring. Through these incisions, excess cartilage and skin may be removed, and the cartilage of the ear will be folded into the proper position and secured with internal stitches.

Ear Surgery Recovery
Your ears will be bandaged following ear surgery for support and protection. Some soreness and itching may occur, and this will subside with time. It is important that you keep pressure off of your ears by sleeping on your back for several weeks after surgery.
