What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The proportion and shape of person’s buttocks are often determined largely by genetics. Sometimes, a healthy diet and exercise is not enough to achieve the buttocks shape that you desire. A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a procedure that uses fat transfer to augment the size and shape of the buttocks. Excess fat from other areas of the body like the abdomen, hips, lower back, or thighs is collected and injected into the buttocks.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
The Brazilian butt lift procedure is achieved through three steps, including:
- Liposuction: Excess fat is removed from the abdomen, hips, lower back, or thighs using liposuction.
- Purification and Transfer: This extracted fat is then purified by placing it into a centrifuge, which separates the purified fat cells from the rest of the material. The purified fat is then transferred into syringes.
- Injection: The fat is injected into specific areas on the buttocks to increase overall volume and improve shape.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery
Following a Brazilian butt lift, discomfort is usually minimal and can be controlled with pain medication. You should not sit or lie directly on the buttocks for about two weeks after surgery. You will also need to sleep on your stomach or side. Your plastic surgeon will instruct you on when you can sit down in a modified position using a donut pillow to prevent pressure on your buttocks. Patients can usually sit normally after about eight weeks and can return to work within two weeks. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with specific instructions on how to properly care for your buttocks during recovery for the best possible results.
The results from a Brazilian butt lift are meant to be long-lasting. The fat cells that were removed using liposuction will not return to the area, and the fat cells that survive in the buttocks will remain for years to come. Significant weight fluctuations, however, may affect your results.
